INGREDIENTS LIST:
2 big bananas, frozen (make sure they’re super ripe before freezing)
1/2 cup of frozen mangoes or strawberries…adjust to your liking. Put in your favorite fruit
1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk (you might adjust this a bit…less is more it will be a little hard to blend, but you don’t want it soupy)
1 tablespoon of blue spirulina powder
Optional: 1 scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder
Step 1:
Prepare Your Fruit: Frozen fruit is the key to a thick and creamy smoothie bowl. It not only makes everything colder, but it also prevents you from having to use a ton of ice and making everything taste watered down. So, I like to freeze bananas ahead of time and use frozen bags of fruit for these bowls. I prefer to use bananas that have ripened until almost black before peeling and freezing them; this ensures they are naturally sweet.
Step 2:
Blend: Add the frozen bananas, blue spirulina powder, and a splash of almond milk to your Vitamix. Blend on high until smooth and creamy. You may need to stop the blender and push the mixture down a few times to help it blend evenly.
Step 3:
Adjust Consistency: If your Vitamix seems to struggle with the thick mixture, add a little more almond milk…just a tad. The goal is to keep it as thick as possible, similar to soft-serve ice cream!
Step 4:
Serve: Scoop your smoothie mix into a bowl. (I love using these coconut bowls. It makes it more fun and makes me feel like I am on a tropical vacation in Hawaii.) Now comes the cool part—throwing on all of your toppings! There are so many options. Put on what makes you happy and you enjoy eating.
Eat Up: Enjoy your awesome smoothie bowl right away for the best flavor and texture!
