I’m excited to share with you two of my favorite holistic wellness practices that have profoundly transformed my health journey: Red Light Therapy and Using a Sauna. Over the years, I’ve researched and experimented with various methods to improve my well-being, and these two have stood out for their remarkable benefits as part of my healing journey. Whether you’re dealing with autoimmune issues, seeking overall wellness, or simply looking to boost your health and confidence, I’m here to share with you what functional/integrative medicine doctors have taught me and what has personally helped me get better.
My introduction to red light therapy was born out of a relentless quest for relief and healing. Battling autoimmune symptoms that conventional medicine couldn’t fully address, I turned to holistic wellness after seeing no improvements. This journey wasn’t just about managing symptoms but also seeking true healing and embracing the whole picture of health. I believe getting to the root cause of any illness is important and not just treating the symptoms. So, this led me down a path to start using different modalities to heal myself from the inside out.
Embracing Red Light Therapy
With its non-invasive bright glow, red light therapy seemed almost too simple to be effective. However, as I looked deeper into the science and explored testimonials, this modality began to paint a promising picture. This therapy works by emitting wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, which penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular energy production. When red light therapy is applied to the body, it triggers a process called photobiomodulation, which stimulates multiple biological processes. This, in turn, promotes healing, reduces inflammation, and enhances overall wellness. You can read more about the benefits of red light therapy from my favorite doctor at The Cancer Center for Healing. Beyond specific health conditions, red light therapy is a versatile tool for anyone seeking a balanced, healthy life. In our daily hustle, stress and fatigue often take a toll on our well-being. Incorporating red light therapy into a regular wellness routine can help mitigate some of these effects.
Key Benefits of Red Light Therapy:
- Reduces Inflammation: Perfect for those with autoimmune conditions, Red Light Therapy helps reduce inflammation, alleviating symptoms and discomfort.
- Boosts Collagen Production: Say hello to youthful, glowing skin! Red Light Therapy enhances collagen production, reducing wrinkles and fine lines.
- Enhances Muscle Recovery: Ideal for fitness enthusiasts, it speeds up muscle recovery and reduces soreness.
- Improves Mood and Energy Levels: Red Light Therapy can elevate your mood and energy levels by stimulating the production of endorphins.
Embracing Sauna Therapy:
Another resource that I love when incorporating holistic wellness into my life is my sauna, which is also associated with various benefits. Regular use of a sauna can improve cardiovascular and respiratory health, aid in pain relief and mental health, help detox your body, improve your skin and sleep, and improve circulation. Using a sauna for only 20 minutes 2-3 times a week can be beneficial! I recommend slowly building up your tolerance to using a sauna, and remember to hydrate! Here are some things that using a sauna can promote:
Key Benefits of Sauna Therapy:
- Detoxification: Sweating in a sauna helps eliminate toxins from the body, promoting a cleaner, healthier you.
- Pain Relief: Infrared heat penetrates deep into muscles and joints, easing pain and stiffness.
- Improved Circulation: Regular sauna use enhances blood flow, which can improve heart health and skin appearance.
- Stress Reduction: The relaxing environment of a sauna can significantly reduce stress levels, improving mental clarity and relaxation.
Tips for Infrared Sauna Usage
Incorporating Red Light Therapy and sauna sessions into your routine is easier than you might think. Here are some practical tips and product recommendations to help you get the most out of your infrared sauna sessions:
- Exercise Before Your Session: To enhance the overall benefits of thermal heating, give your body a head start by exercising before your sauna session.
- Habit Stack: Maximize your time by combining other wellness practices with your sauna session. To boost detoxification, try using a castor oil pack or dry brushing (with my favorite dry brush) at the beginning of your session.
- Rebounding: Bounce on a rebounder before your sauna session to further improve lymphatic flow and the detoxification effect. I just bought this rebounder on Amazon it’s so easy to put together.
- Take a Binder: Consider taking a binder just before your sauna session to enhance detoxification and reduce symptoms.
- Hydrate Well: Drink plenty of filtered water before and after your session to replenish fluids lost via sweat. I love adding electrolytes to my water or making a homemade electrolyte drink with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of mineral salt.
- Shower Afterward: Always follow your sauna session with a shower to wash away the toxins released through your sweat.
- Listen to Your Body: It’s crucial to listen to your body and not overdo it. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, end your session early. Your safety and well-being are the most important when starting a new protocol.
- Consult Your Doctor: Before beginning sauna therapy, especially if you have medical conditions, are taking medications, are pregnant, or are nursing, consult with your doctor to ensure it’s safe for you.
Supporting Cancer Treatment, Recovery, & Prevention
Witnessing loved ones battle cancer is heart-wrenching. The treatments, while lifesaving, often come with harsh side effects. Here, red light therapy steps in as a supportive ally. Its ability to promote cellular repair and reduce inflammation can significantly aid in recovery, providing much-needed relief from the fatigue and discomfort associated with conventional cancer treatments.
Moreover, red light therapy’s role in boosting the immune system is invaluable. A stronger immune response can be crucial in both fighting cancer and preventing its recurrence. For those in remission, it offers a way to maintain health and wellness, helping the body stay resilient and robust.
